In the following window, ensure Enable Folder Actions is ticked, that Downloads is listed in the left-hand column, and is also ticked. In the list which comes up, search for airdropSorter. Any files AirDropped to your computer should now be automatically relocated to the folder you specified in the script. To undo your changes, follow Steps in the How to revert your changes section below.
Do not follow both sets of instructions. These are legacy instructions for pre-Mojave operating systems. Alternatively, a direct download is also available. Select Install.
When prompted, select Folder Action as the document type. Where it says Folder Action receives files and folders added to: make sure you select your Downloads folder. The action we installed should come up. Click and drag the Quarantine Filter over to the Workflow space on the right-hand side.
Automator may prompt you to load the action we installed. Once it is activated, that actual sending of the file usually takes no more than a few seconds. When I am in close proximity to another iPhone user that I want to share information from my phone with, Airdrop is definitely my go-to feature every time. So where are airdrop files saved on iPhone and Mac? For Mac, any Airdrop files are saved by default in the Downloads folder. For iPhone, pictures and videos sent by Airdrop are saved in the Photos app.
Otherwise, where Airdrop files are saved on iPhone is based on the type and app the user wishes to open the file with. Once you understand where different file types are saved throughout the iPhone, using Airdrop can become a breeze and a major convenience over traditional methods such as e-mail and text messaging.
I go in detail below to explain where unique Airdrop files can be found when saved. To send files between two devices like a smartphone and a computer or laptop that are not in the same room, the two main ways to transfer information include SMS text messaging and e-mail. By sending files through these two avenues, you can be almost anywhere around the world and be able to transfer them.
But as it turns out, sometimes text messaging and e-mail can take a long time, especially when it comes to sending larger files over the air. However, lets say there are two Apple devices in the same room, like a Mac laptop and an iPhone.
Is there a faster way larger files can be sent other than just the two conventional modes of send? In fact there is, and it is called Airdrop. What this swift feature launched by Apple accomplishes is that now you can seamless transfer files to and from any Apple device within close proximity.

Files Airdropped to a Mac should either open in a suitable application or get deposited in the Downloads folder.
If neither is happening then it would be good to file a bug report. It seems like that the process couldn't manage to save the files. Now that El Capitan PB2 is out, I think it would be better to update and check if this problem is resolved before submitting a bug report.
Unfortunately, I can't update until later today, so if anyone can check if this problem is solved, please post in this thread to let others know. I am novice but finally figured out that airdrop places the files in chronological date order based on the date the file was created. For example if you took a photo on April 21, on your iPhone and then used airdrop to put that photo on your macbook on September 20 that file will be placed in the date order it was created April in your download folder.
